FAQ
Answers to common questions about crushed rock & gravel.
Not quite. Crushed rock is mechanically broken, giving angular faces that lock together and compact into a firm base. Gravel is typically rounded (often river-washed) — it drains and looks clean but compacts less.
Yes — crushed gravel is produced by mechanically crushing larger stone to a target size, then screening it to grade. We carry crushed and screened products from 1/4" up.
They’re named by size and grade — e.g. 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" crushed rock, or by ASTM number (#5, #57). Larger blends are referred to as base or sub-base.
Clear and level the area, compact the subgrade, add a geotextile fabric if needed, then place and compact the crushed rock in lifts to the depth your project calls for.
